Personal Monday....oops: My Helplessness Due to Google Navigation and iPad 2 Musings
So of course it's Monday and that means a wrap up of the technical side of my personal life. Yes I missed my Sunday deadline and I'm sorry. I've been super busy this week with a bunch of busy work and school. Overall this week really hasn't been eventful in the way of technology. I didn't have any giant personal realizations or dealings with gadget OCD. I did realize that I am completely lost without Google Navigation and the iPad 2 isn't that great.
Last night I had to go to my friend's house and I haven't been the area in almost two years. Well in those two years that passed I have developed an attachment to Google Navigation. GPS is an amazing thing because I just love being able to go somewhere I have never been and not have one second of getting lost. When I was first started driving, I used to be very good with directions and rarely got lost through sheer necessity. This is far from the case now. I had to use my Samsung Focus which has Bing Maps to get to my friend's house. In the end I probably missed about 5 turns and added about 10 minutes to my travel time. I really hope that Microsoft comes up with their own turn by turn navigation solution soon. Maybe Microsoft will use Ovi Maps since they're now partners with Nokia.
Otherwise the only big thing to hit the tech world last week was the iPad 2. No real big surprises there, just steady improvements. I wonder more now how the iPad 3 will turn out. I predict that will be more of an upgrade comparable to the change from the iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4. By this time next year we will be seing quad core devices on the Android front, so it would not be a surprise to see a quad core iPad. Lastly I don't believe I'll be getting an iPad 2. I just don't have the money right now and my family really isn't interested in buying my iPad 1.
See you next week!
